Dura Mater

Definition: The dura mater is the thickest and outermost layer of the meninges, membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. Bleeding between the dura mater and the skull is known as an epidural hematoma, a life-threatening form of closed head injury.

Dura mater is Latin for tough mother.
