Not Paying Attention

I was at high school baseball practice, playing first base. We were working on 3rd to 2nd to 1st double plays When the coach had stopped practice to talk to the 3rd baseman about footwork, I, in my infinite wisdom, decided to turn my head to see how the girls track team was faring next door. About 15 seconds later I heard my name being called, turning just in time to have the ball, just thrown from 2nd base, hit me square in the face. First, it was the best throw the 2nd baseman made all season. Second, I was extremely lucky where it hit. The ball managed to hit directly on the cheek bone, missing my eye, jaw and nose by less than an inch in each direction. Unfortunately, my nose started bleeding, my face swelled up to look like a baseball might of lodged inside of my cheek and the capillaries in my eye burst, giving half of the eye a nice shade of crimson. Thankfully, nothing was broken or fractured. I did have the humiliation of being asked if my girlfriend beat me up though.
