What kind of injury is it
Second degree burns to 50% of the face.
What happened
I'm a diesel boat mechanic but was working on a boat that had water in the gas tank and all I had to do was drain the tank change all the filters and refill the tanks with gas. While changing filters and removing gas tank hose to drain, gas had spilled into the bottom of the boat called the bilge, approximately a gallon and a half. Without thinking how flammable gas is opposed to diesel I proceeded to use a wet dry vacuum cleaner to suck out the gas when it blew up, I opened my eyes and saw fire all around my feet and some how managed to jump into the water.
What I'd Do Differently
- I would have used a pneumatic air pump and absorbent pads to clean it out with.
