What happened

I was celebrating New Years with my family. We decided to do fireworks. I usually sit back and watch but decided to participate this time. I lit the wrong end of the firecracker. I actually saw fire on my hand but put it out by slapping it against my leg. The pain was intense!! I ran cool water on it for a long time and kept it in a bowl of water for hours. I decided to go to an urgent care clinic the next day. I was given antibiotics and two different ointments.

What I'd Do Differently

  • I will never pop fireworks again. It's very important to read the directions before handling such dangerous items. It was very dark also. Make sure you know what you're doing ahead of time.
