What happened

Grandson hit by car, trapped under & burned by the catalyc converter. 911 called and no other opportunity do do anything else for the child. Medicated for pain at local hospital then transferred to a hospital that has a burn unit. The child needed 3 grafts & hospitalized for 2 weeks. Wearing compression garments (pants & vest) for 1-2 yrs. Possible need of further surgery on left knee to allow for movement of the knee joint & has some stiffness 18mo after accident. Other possible surgeries unknown at present. Child was terribly dirty, covered with grease, oil, & dirt from the undercarriage of the vehicle. Very difficult for the layman to know the severity until after the child was cleaned of all contaminants. Unfortunately unable to get before pictures at the time.

What I'd Do Differently

  • Child doing all necessary, bike helmet etc. 911 called & no other opportunity to do anything else for the child.
