These Mosquitos were on Steroids!

possible spider or mosquito bites approx 36 hrs later

Tell us where your bite is (arm, leg, nose, whatever)

I have 4 bites on the back of my thigh. (Approx 36 hrs post-bite)

Why I think it's a spider bite

I'm actually not 100% sure they ARE spider bites. It's been suggested to me that these are house spider bites, however, I'm no expert on bites. I thought they might be mosquito bites (since i have 5 other bites on my other leg, however they're less severe) and I didn't think a spider would bite with such frequency.

I've been bitten (for sure) by a wolf spider before. There were two tiny puncture marks a few milimeters apart and the site bruised badly, but cleared up on its own. I live in central PA and wolf spiders run rampant here, and with having a basement bedroom, I see them quite frequently.

What happened

The reason I think they may be mosquito bites, rather than spider bites, is because I was out for about a 2 hour walk and had no bug spray on. I was also wearing shorts, so this allowed easy access for any kind of critters to bite.

My concern that they may be spider bites is because of the severity of the reaction. I've never been bitten by a mosquito and had the bites redden and puff up as these have.

Again, I'm no expert. And if these swell any further or become redder or turn a different color (like maybe possible bruising or necrosis) I WILL be going to a doctor.

I've treated the bites with hydrocortisone gel (Hydro-Cool) and I took 2 benadryl last night so I could get some sleep.

Advice

  • use bug spray!!!
  • hydrocortisone gel/cream & benadryl are your friend
  • wear pants
