Why I think it's a spider bite

Did not see culprit, but deduced that it must have been spider and doctor agrees, but says, "not a recluse."

Today is day 5 and I started antibiotics/ice/Benadryl on Tuesday, but area is still hot, raised, tender and getting bigger. I also have a small grape-sized knot that itches and has popped up on the back of my neck just above the bite. I started with joint pain, stiffness, and nausea on day 3-4, today area is still hot to touch, tender, and running low grade temp. A few small raised areas in center.

What happened

Was awakened by stinging and burning sensation with noted swollen area approx size of quarter. Just prior to event, I had picked my shirt up from the floor and put on in a hurry; then removed the shirt 5-7 mins later. Pain awakened me approx 30mins later; fell back asleep thinking, "dang, a skeeter got me."

Next morning area red, raised, size of quarter, and itched. Day 2 noted area was getting larger in diameter. Was in Mississippi waited until day 3 upon return to TN to go to doctor.

Advice

  • Go to doctor early
  • Ask if antibiotic is for venom or bacteria
  • If not improving after day 4 go back to doctor
