Why I think it's a spider bite

I really think it was chiggers or something in the family. I saw about 3 kinds in the house. The apt bldg was pretty new and built out of the woods. So I'm not sure where these critters came from--the woods, a previous tenant with pets, or furniture given to the tenant. But I'd like some feedback on what these critters were. Some were gray and shaped like fat rice, some were do-do brown w/round body, round head, and some were gray sorta teardrop but like the brown with head and 6 legs shaped like chigger legs. I put pictures of 2 kinds. 3rd didn't come out. the shell was hard, couldn't kill w/a shoe, they'd pop back up

What happened

Every nite from the time I arrived they bit me all over! This was in MD in the month of July. I stayed 6 nites, sleeping about 5 hrs per nite, but in that short time they tore me up! I got bit all over--on my arms, hands, fingers, legs, thighs, back, shoulders, butt, ankles, tummy, and even on my neck and face! When they started on my face, I Left! It appeared bites popped out even after I left for a few hours but in retrospect I think they were there I just missed them cuz when I applied cream to them, they didn't blister, and I noticed that whenever I put 2% corto cream on the new ones they blistered and busted. A few of the blisters even took the shape of the actual critters! That spooked me. I found the bites cuz there were so many of them, they were so big, red, hard I noticed when I wiped sweat off my forehead. I think I got more bites each time I went back to the apt for my luggage. Once I left the apt for good, I didn't get any more bites. I never heard of chiggers in an apt. But I don't know where they came from. I tremble to think what would've happened to a handicapped bedridden person in that bed/apt! A woman or child woulda been eaten alive after just 2-3 weeks if they stayed there! I'm sure they woulda needed antibiotics & possibly ER/hospitalization. I even believe that if they stayed there too long, they'd die from all the bites--literally eaten alive! That's how ravenous those creatures were biting and how many there were living there. They'd just keep biting and multiplying constantly til there was no body left.

Advice

  • I learned that you have to pay attention to your surroundings at all times.
  • I would not have stayed for 6 days if I knew I was on the menu of critters--especially such ravenous creatures!
  • I took pictures but have not positively been able to identify the bugs; however, they seem to most closely match chiggers and the advice given for them.
