Chest Compressions

Definition: The act of pushing on the chest during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Chest compressions help push blood through the heart and surrounding blood vessels. One-way valves in the heart and veins keep blood from flowing backward.

Chest compressions are often used in conjunction with rescue breathing.
