Definition: A vehicle used to transport sick or injured people with medical needs. A prehospital emergency medical services provider tends to the needs of the sick or injured occupant(s) during transportation. Ambulances can be cars, trucks, helicopters, boats, or airplanes.

Also Known As: Mobile intensive care unit (MICU), rescue units, medical transport units.
