Rod Brouhard is a paramedic, journalist, educator and advocate for emergency medical service providers and patients. He started as a volunteer firefighter in 1987 and fell in love with emergency medical services. Rod's first job on an ambulance was in 1988, and he hasn't stopped since. Experience:Besides being a full-time paramedic, Rod writes and speaks about first aid, disaster response and preparedness, and emergency medical services. He regularly contributes to newspapers, magazines, and national EMS trade publications. He's also been a guest on CNN Radio and has appeared as a featured guest on "Fox News Live with Jamie Colby." Rod directed the EMS Program at Modesto Junior College in California for 10 years. This program included emergency medical technician training, certified first responder training, paramedic preparatory classes and electrocardiogram interpretation. He served on the advisory committee and trained paramedic preceptors for the paramedic program at California State University, Stanislaus. There, he developed the curriculum for educating preceptors and still serves as a preceptor for paramedic interns training in his hometown. Education:Rod completed paramedic training through Merced College in 1991. He is certified in emergency medical dispatch, advanced cardiac life support, international trauma life support, pediatric advanced life support and -- of course -- CPR. Rod graduated magna cum laude from American Intercontinental University with a bachelor's degree in business, focusing on healthcare management. From Rod Brouhard:First aid covers a wide variety of issues from life-threatening emergencies to minor illnesses and injuries. It's important to be self-sufficient, but it's also important to know when to seek professional help. Getting the help you need when you need it is about knowing how to call, when to call, and what to do until help gets there. I work to give you the tools you need to stay safe and prepared.
