Apples Out. Fries In.

Follow me on:

I'm not sure how many people opt for apple slices over french fries at a fast food place -- especially at McDonald's, where the fries are arguably the best thing on the menu -- but if you're that person then beware: McD's and BK (Burger King for those of you without television) are recalling their apples.

These two fast food giants get their apple slices and other fresh apple products from Missa Bay, LLC and Missa Bay found listeria on their machines that process apples. Potentially, anything supplied by Missa Bay that contains apples could be contaminated and is being recalled. Nobody has been identified as getting sick from these products.

McDonald's and Burger King are not the only chains affected. Missa Bay apples make it into a lot of products. The recall notice is on the FDA website here.

If you've been choosing apple slices to go with your Big Mac instead of super-sizing the fries, good for you. For the near future, however, you'll just have to treat yourself to a deep fried treat. I guess you could just eat the burger a la carte, but what's the fun in that?

On the other hand, they didn't say anything about the apple pies...
