Surviving Life Support Without Power Support

Tuesday January 13, 2009

The Associated Press released a story about people with power-dependant medical equipment. It seems these folks are the forgotten patients in disaster situations when the power goes off.

Generators, batteries and oxygen tanks can only last so long, but not having them is a bad idea. The most important thing in the AP story is the realization that no one is going to help you but you. It's a lesson we can all use, not just those with life support equipment.

In an emergency, the person most worried about you and your family is you. Regardless of whether you have specialized equipment or not, it is a good idea to plan and prepare for emergencies.
