Missions are happening today. We took several evacuated nursing home residents back to their facility this morning. It looked like the nursing home did OK other than a few trees in the parking lot.
We're on deck for another mission now. We don't have any details. It could be anything from a quick trip like this morning to a three-day stint in Galveston, where base camp conditions are not nearly as favorable. I doubt seriously I'll be able to blog from Galveston. You can follow my adventure on Twitter if you want. I'll be sure to alert you when a new blog entry hits here.
My second poker game wasn't as successful as the first. I'll make it up. There was a pickup game of volleyball going on a little bit ago. Traffic cones, push brooms and caution tape would've made a good net. Most of the players got sent out on a mission before we could round up what we needed.
Killing time is almost a sport in itself. We were naming the ambulances in our strike team. I saw a few other crews with makeshift movie theaters: laptops sitting on gurneys, sound piped through the ambulance speakers and folding chairs in a half circle.
The folks in Houston have been absolutely wonderful to us. I want to thank them for their southern hospitality. It's been a great experience so far. I'm happy to be here helping out and I hope they work us really hard.
Time to roll (still don't know where we're going).
